How Does a Tire Shredder Work?

During tire shredding, whole tires or pre-processed tire sections are fed into the shredding chamber. Rotating cutting shafts grip, tear, squeeze, and cut the tires into smaller pieces.

  1. Waste tires are fed into the tire shredder.
  2. The cutting shafts rotate at low speed and apply high torque to the tires.
  3. The blades tear and cut the tires into smaller shreds.
  4. A screen controls the required output size when fitted.
  5. Oversized material is returned to the shredding chamber for another cutting cycle.
  6. Qualified tire shreds are discharged by conveyor for TDF production or further recycling.

For many recycling projects, shredding tires is only the first processing stage. If the required product is rubber granules or powder, the tire shreds are processed further through steel separation, granulation, fiber removal, grinding, and screening.
